Church Cove
49° 58' 17" N 5° 11' 6" WChurch Cove is a picture-perfect hamlet tucked away on the Lizard Peninsula.
A handful of quaint cottages lead to the steep slipway which is still used for launching the small fleet of fishing boats.
On a low tide there is sometimes a little patch of sand near the bottom of the slip, but this all but disappears as the tide comes in. However, there are plenty of spots to perch on around the cove and take in the picture-postcard surroundings.
The water around this part of the Lizard is beautifully clear making it great for snorkelling and diving. For those a little less adventurous there are any number of rock pools and gullies to explore at the bottom of the slipway.

History of Church Cove
Named for the nearby Church of St. Winwaloe, which overlooks the cove, this area has been inhabited for centuries. The church dates back to the medieval period and is dedicated to St. Winwaloe, a Breton saint.
Church Cove was once a bustling fishing and smuggling hub, with its sheltered cove providing a safe haven for boats. Smugglers took advantage of the secluded beaches and hidden caves along the coastline to evade authorities.
During the 19th century, Church Cove became a popular destination for tourists drawn to its rugged cliffs, sandy beaches, and crystal-clear waters. It also played a role in Cornwall’s maritime history, with tales of shipwrecks and rescues.
Today, Church Cove retains its historic charm and natural beauty, offering visitors a glimpse into Cornwall’s past. It’s a popular spot for beachcombing, swimming, and exploring the scenic coastal paths that wind their way along the Lizard Peninsula.
