Great Western Beach
50° 25' 0" N 5° 4' 42" WGreat Western is one of the four main beaches in Newquay.
With optimal water quality, epic waves and gloomy caves surrounding crumbling cliffs and tidal rock pools that are just waiting to be explored, it is not hard to see why these golden sands are popular with both surfers and families alike.
The west-facing beach is situated between Towan and Tolcarne and is reached either by walking along the Newquay Bays sands at low tide or via a tarmac path accessed just to the left of the Great Western Hotel.

History of Great Western Beach
The beach’s name comes from the Great Western Railway, which played a significant role in bringing tourists to Newquay in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The railway made the beach and the town more accessible, sparking a boom in tourism.
Historically, Great Western Beach was a favorite spot for Victorian holidaymakers who flocked to Newquay for its health benefits and recreational opportunities. The beach became known for its safe swimming conditions and picturesque setting, attracting visitors from across the country.

Directions to Great Western Beach
From the A30, take the exit onto the A3058 towards Newquay. Follow the A3058 through Quintrell Downs and continue towards Newquay. Upon reaching Newquay, follow signs for the town center and Great Western Beach. The beach is well-signposted and easily accessible from the main roads.
Parking for Great Western Beach
The closest parking is at the Great Western Beach Car Park, located just a short walk from the beach. Additional parking can be found at other nearby car parks in Newquay town center. During peak times, these car parks can fill up quickly, so it’s advisable to arrive early to secure a spot. Please follow local parking regulations and be considerate of residents and other visitors when parking.
