Custom House Quay
50° 9' 15" N 5° 3' 53" WCustom House Quay is Falmouth's original harbour in the centre of the town.
In fact, it is where the Royal Mail first established its packet service and was the only place international mail reached the UK for 150 years, making it the first official site where overseas news arrived on British shores.
At one point around 3,000 ships passed through Falmouth Harbour each year. That was until steam powered ships, which had no problem reaching London, diminished the need for the smaller sail-based vessels.
Depending on the tides and weather, scenic boats to St Mawes ferry passengers over the busy estuary of the River Fal from the harbour.
