The area is managed by the National Trust and features well-maintained paths as part of the South West Coast Path.
This is a beach to be photographed (with extreme care) but not accessed. The erosion of the cliffs at Hell’s Mouth has resulted in some interesting caves on the east side. These make a loud booming noise as they fill with surging waves. The cove, cliffs and two isolated stacks out to sea are popular breeding grounds for seabirds such as guillemots, razorbills, fulmars and kittiwakes.

History of Hell’s Mouth
Hell’s Mouth has a name that reflects its dramatic and somewhat foreboding appearance. The sheer cliffs and powerful waves crashing against the rocks have inspired awe and caution in equal measure over the centuries. Historically, this part of the Cornish coast was notorious for shipwrecks, with many vessels falling victim to the treacherous waters.
The cliffs also hold a darker history related to smuggling, a common practice along Cornwall’s coast. The hidden coves and inlets provided ideal spots for smugglers to bring in illicit goods away from the eyes of customs officers.
