History of Porthminster Beach
Porthminster Beach has long been a key part of St Ives’ appeal as a holiday destination, attracting visitors since the early days of Cornwall’s tourism boom in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The development of the railway to St Ives, with a station directly above Porthminster, made the beach especially popular with tourists from across the UK. Porthminster was historically associated with fishing, and while St Ives has since transitioned more towards tourism, remnants of its maritime past can still be seen in the town’s harbour and architecture. Today, Porthminster Beach is managed to maintain its pristine environment, offering a welcoming space for leisure and family activities while preserving the natural beauty that makes it one of Cornwall’s most beloved beaches.
