History of Point
Point has a history rooted in the maritime activities that have long characterized the Fal Estuary. The area around Point was once involved in the local mining industry, with Devoran serving as a port for shipping copper and tin from the nearby Gwennap mines. The estuary provided a vital transportation route for these industries until the decline of mining in the late 19th century. Today, the remnants of this industrial past can still be seen in the surrounding area, with old quays and paths linking Point to the historical trade routes of the Fal River. While the hamlet itself has remained relatively small, it has become a cherished spot for those looking to experience Cornwall’s riverside charm. Point’s peaceful atmosphere and scenic setting continue to attract visitors interested in Cornwall’s natural and historical landscapes.
