Porth Beach
50° 25' 30" N 5° 3' 37" WPorth Beach is a large expanse of golden sand on the edge of Newquay.
The popularity of Porth Beach’s sandy shores might well be explained by its protruding Porth Island (also known as Trevelgue Head), which is accessed by a narrow footbridge that leads visitors over gurgling waves to impressive prehistoric defensive earthworks and the remains of an Iron Age settlement. Or perhaps it is because the rocky headlands engulfing the beach shelter sunbathers and swimmers from turbulent Atlantic winds. Either way, the pleasant charm of the place is not to be missed.
The views from the top heights of Trevelgue Head are spectacular when looking back towards Newquay Bay and Park Head and the islands blow hole is a must-see, which reaches its most impressive heights on windy days at mid-tide.
