Golant is located on the River Fowey between Lostwithiel and Fowey.
Being tucked away up the river, Golant has its own eco-climate by often avoiding the wind experienced in the more exposed areas.
With the low level of the village road and the big tides on the River Fowey, anything over five metres tends to flood the road and you could end up with a damaged car. It’s worth checking the tide times before visiting Golant to make sure parking is possible. With very low tides a beautiful sandy beach is exposed to enjoy.
There is a railway line running across the front of the village which takes china clay between Lostwithiel and Fowey.

History of Golant
Golant is a small village located on the banks of the River Fowey in Cornwall, England. The village has a rich history dating back to the 16th century when it was a thriving port for exporting tin and other goods.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, Golant was a hub for shipbuilding and fishing, with many of the village’s residents employed in these industries. The village was also known for its smugglers who used the river to transport contraband goods into the country.
In the early 20th century, the decline of the shipping and fishing industries led to a decline in Golant’s population, and many of the village’s historic buildings fell into disrepair. However, in recent years, there has been a revival of interest in the village’s history, and efforts have been made to preserve its heritage.
Today, Golant is a popular destination for tourists, who come to enjoy the village’s picturesque setting and explore its historic buildings and landmarks. The village is also a popular spot for water sports, including kayaking and paddleboarding, and is home to several annual events, including the Golant Illuminated Boat Procession, which takes place each August.
