History of Praa Sands
Praa Sands has a rich history that is intertwined with Cornwall’s maritime past. The beach and surrounding area were historically used by smugglers, who took advantage of its secluded coves and hidden bays to land contraband goods. Nearby, remnants of old mining activity can also be found, reflecting Cornwall’s industrial heritage. During World War II, the beach served as a training ground for American troops preparing for the D-Day landings, with some evidence of this history still visible in the area. Today, Praa Sands has transformed into a popular holiday destination, drawing visitors with its natural beauty and welcoming community. While the beach itself has changed little over time, it remains a cherished spot for both locals and tourists who appreciate its unspoiled charm.
