History of Perranuthnoe
Perranuthnoe has a history that dates back to medieval times, with agriculture and fishing playing a significant role in the local economy. The village church, dedicated to St. Piran, is believed to have been established in the 12th century and remains a focal point of the community. Perranuthnoe’s location near the coast also made it a common site for pilchard fishing, an important industry in Cornwall until the 19th century. The beach and surrounding area have historical connections to smuggling, like many remote coastal villages in Cornwall. In more recent years, Perranuthnoe has become known for its artists, drawn by the beautiful landscapes and peaceful environment. The village retains much of its traditional character, with narrow lanes, stone cottages, and farmland, offering visitors a glimpse into Cornwall’s rural past.
