History of Pentargon Waterfall
The Pentargon Waterfall and the surrounding area have long been shaped by Cornwall’s distinctive natural and cultural history. The name “Pentargon” comes from the Cornish words meaning “headland of the fairies.” The Boscastle area, close to Pentargon, has a long history as a fishing port, and it was once a vital hub for coastal trade in the medieval period.
Smuggling also played a part in local history, with hidden coves providing ideal locations for illicit activity. In more recent history, Boscastle became internationally known after the severe flooding of 2004, which caused widespread devastation in the village. The nearby South West Coast Path, which passes Pentargon, has been an essential route for travellers and traders for centuries, allowing the area to retain its sense of historic importance.
